Broadway Musical Makes History with Simultaneous Runs in New York, London, and Seoul {vi1}”The Great Gatsby” is about to make theater history! On August 1, this dazzling musical will light up stages in three of the world’s hottest theater hubs – New York, London, and Seoul – just 15 months after its Broadway debut. Talk about a global takeover!{vi2} {vi3}The mastermind behind this theatrical trifecta? None other than Korean producer Shin Chun-soo, the founder and CEO of OD Company. This guy’s got some serious ambition!{vi4} {vi5}Shin spilled the tea at a recent press conference, and let’s just say, he’s feeling the pressure. “On Broadway or the West End, it’s like butterflies in your stomach. But in Seoul? It’s more like a full-blown anxiety attack!”{vi6} {vi7}”Korean audiences? They’re not messing around,” Shin confessed. “They’re smart, they’re picky, and they don’t hold back their opinions. It’s terrifying!”{vi8} {vi9}Last year, Shin’s dream came true when he brought “The Great Gatsby” to Broadway. But he didn’t stop there – he wanted to bring it home to Seoul within two years.{vi10} {vi11}Originally, he thought about doing a Korean version. But then he had a lightbulb moment: why not bring the original, English-language production to Seoul? And that’s exactly what he did.{vi12} {vi13}Shin’s all about keeping it real. “Sure, a Korean version might tug at the heartstrings more,” he admitted. “But this run? It’s all about showcasing the original in all its glory.”{vi14} {vi15}Don’t think this is just a copy-paste job, though. The Seoul production is serving up fresh looks with brand-new sets and costumes. And the cast? Totally revamped. “Every production adds its own flavor,” Shin explained. “But in Seoul, it’s the actors that really shake things up. The chemistry between the Korean, American, and British teams? It’s electric!”{vi16} {vi2}{vi18} {vi19}For 15 sizzling weeks, Broadway stars Matt Doyle and Senzel Ahmady will be bringing Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan to life at Seoul’s GS Arts Center. Get ready, Gangnam!{vi20} {vi21}Doyle, a 20-year Broadway veteran, is pumped for this new adventure. “I realized I’d been in a New York bubble,” he confessed. “There’s a whole world out there, and this is my chance to dive in!”{vi22} {vi23}Fresh off his Tony win for “Company,” Doyle’s ready to tackle Gatsby. He’s all about bringing the heat and the heart to the role. “I’m going to give you the real deal,” he promised.{vi24} {vi25}”For me, it’s all about keeping it 100,” Doyle explained. “If I’m drawing from my own experiences, that’s going to hit home with the audience. And that’s what brings a character to life.”{vi26} {vi27}Ahmady’s been crushing on this show since day one, especially Eva Noblezada’s take on Daisy.{vi28} {vi29}”I’ve been obsessed with ‘The Great Gatsby’ since it hit Broadway last year,” she gushed. Leaving New York was tough for the “Aladdin” tour alum, but this opportunity was too good to pass up.{vi30} {vi31}”Working with Matt is a dream,” Ahmady raved. “Every day is a masterclass, both on and off stage.”{vi32} {vi33}The numbers don’t lie – this show is a hit! Since its April 2024 premiere, the Broadway production has raked in a cool $7.8 million as of June 29. Across the pond, the West End version isn’t doing too shabby either, with £1.13 million ($1.45 million) in sales by June 23, according to OD Company.{vi34} {vi35}Mark your calendars, Seoul! Previews kick off on August 1, with the official opening in early August. You’ve got until November 9 to catch this glittering spectacle. Don’t miss out on the party of the century!{vi36} {vi3}{vi38}
