Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of North Korea, reported on the 31st that Kim Song Nam, Director of the International Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea, who is visiting Laos, paid a courtesy visit to President Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos.
The newspaper stated, “Comrade Kim Song Nam made a courtesy visit to Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith, the General Secretary of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the 29th.”
The newspaper reported that Director Kim told President Sisoulith, “Our party reaffirms its stance to actively promote comradely and strategic cooperation and joint struggle with Laos in advancing the victory of the socialist cause and realizing true international justice.”
It also explained that President Sisoulith affirmed, “There will be many achievements in the development of relations between the two parties and the two countries based on socialist ideology” in response to Director Kim’s expression.
Furthermore, President Sisoulith said, “I am grateful for the passionate support and encouragement from the Workers’ Party of Korea, the government, and the people for Laos’ struggle for national salvation, homeland defense, and great work of national construction.”
According to the newspaper, the conversation took place in a friendly atmosphere, and Director Kim delivered a personal verbal message from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to President Sisoulith.
In a reply message, President Sisoulith conveyed to Leader Kim, “I wish for the further solid development of the friendly cooperative relationship between the two parties, the two countries, and the two peoples of Laos and North Korea, bringing substantial benefits to the people of our two countries.”
Meanwhile, on the same day, Director Kim also met with Thongsing Thammavong, the Chairman of the External Relations Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party. At this meeting, Director Kim is known to have emphasized the legitimacy of North Korea’s policy of strengthening its self-defensive national defense capabilities and its line of struggle against adversaries.
