On the 25th, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un observed a test firing of a 240mm artillery shell using new technology, reported the Korean Central News Agency on the 26th.

The news agency stated, “On April 25th, comrade Kim Jong Un observed a test firing of a 240mm artillery shell produced at the newly established national defense industrial enterprise under the Second Economic Committee.” It added, “Through the test firing, the flight characteristics, accuracy, and concentration indices of the artillery shells produced by the newly established national defense industry enterprise were evaluated very satisfactorily.”

Kim emphasized that the defense industry enterprise must properly execute this year’s military production plan. He stated, “Introducing new technology into the 240mm artillery weapon system will bring about a strategic change in our military’s artillery firepower.”

The news agency added that the test firing inspection was guided by Pak Jong Chon, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Secretary and Director of Military Industry Jo Chun Ryong, Deputy Director of the Munitions Industry Department Kim Jong Sik, and Chairman of the Second Economic Committee Ko Pyong Hyon.
