North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that all levels of the military must prioritize war preparation and strive for its swift completion. His comments came during a speech on the final day of a conference in Pyongyang, marking North Korea’s first such gathering in a decade.
Kim emphasized that the moment the military achieves full war readiness, North Korea’s sovereignty and peace will be permanently secured. He reiterated that the most critical task for the nation’s armed forces is to prepare for conflict.
He also criticized the growing trilateral military alliance between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, accusing the U.S. of rapidly establishing an “Asian NATO” by turning the South Korea-U.S. alliance into a complete nuclear partnership and enhancing military cooperation among the three countries. Kim pointed to the daily deployment of strategic military assets to South Korea and its surrounding areas.
The North Korean leader warned that it wouldn’t be surprising if U.S. and allied forces appeared on the Korean Peninsula under a NATO-like military alliance rather than the UN in case of an emergency. He cautioned that the U.S. and South Korea are approaching actions that could lead to severe consequences.
Kim also stated that strengthening North Korea’s nuclear forces has become an irreversible policy, stressing the need to ensure that their nuclear arsenal is capable of fulfilling both deterrence and secondary missions with enhanced readiness. He vowed to continue reinforcing the state’s self-defense capabilities, focusing on nuclear power.
Furthermore, Kim accused U.S. military suppliers of prolonging conflicts by providing support to Ukraine and Israel, raising concerns about the potential for World War III. He framed the U.S. and Western support for Ukraine against Russia as a strategy to gain combat experience and expand global military intervention. Kim warned that the risk of war is growing globally, making it impossible to predict where or when conflict might erupt.
