A rural café in southeastern China has captivated attention by perching atop a 70-meter (230-foot) high cliff in Fuzhou and serving specialty coffee priced at an astonishing 398 yuan ($56). The Gushi Cliff Café is redefining the coffee experience.

According to local authorities, the café leverages Gushi’s breathtaking natural beauty to boost tourism. Officials revealed that the project is part of a government-backed tourism initiative, which received a subsidy of approximately 1.5 million yuan ($217,000) last year.

Reaching this sky-high café requires a thrilling 30-minute guided climb. The steep $56 price tag covers more than just the coffee—it includes insurance, safety gear rental, mountain guides, and a photo opportunity to commemorate the daring ascent. CNN reports that the unique experience attracts an average of 50-weekday adventurers, doubling to 100 on weekends.

Videos of coffee enthusiasts scaling the cliff have gone viral, sparking awe and disbelief. While many commenters insist they wouldn’t brave the climb for all the coffee in China, those who have taken on the challenge describe it as “a once-in-a-lifetime adventure” worth every heart-pounding step.
