Is North Korea’s Military Losing Control? Only 30% of Soldiers Show Up for Key Training Orders Amid Food Shortages

It has been reported that reserve soldiers in regional military units in North Korea frequently avoid training.
A source from South Pyongan Province reported to SPN, “At the Bonghwasan 235 military unit of North Korea’s 3rd Corps, the participation rate in the collective outdoor training conducted to implement the December Supreme Command training order is only about 30%.”
The source revealed that some companies could only mobilize 15 personnel, forcing them to postpone training sessions due to insufficient participants.
According to the source, this phenomenon occurs regularly during training. Food shortages are the most significant cause, and chronic indifference to the ongoing crisis is also a contributing factor.
North Korean reserve soldiers are organized under the Worker-Peasant Red Guards and are mostly lower-ranking personnel. They are immediately summoned to serve as the second line of defense during a potential invasion of the South and undergo approximately 60 days of training annually.
