The Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with a Korean Students’ Art Troupe from Japan on Thursday during a Lunar New Year performance. The event included a commemorative photo session.

In a shift of focus, the Korean Central News Agency has removed a section from its website that celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations between North Korea and China. Now, the website emphasizes the growing friendship between North Korea and Russia. Analysts see this change as a sign of Pyongyang’s increasing alignment with Moscow, while its relationship with Beijing appears to be cooling.

As of Friday, the “2024: Year of DPRK-China Friendship” section has disappeared from the homepage. This section, which featured articles about exchanges between the two countries, was prominent last year but likely ended with the conclusion of the designated “friendship year.”

In 2024, North Korea and China marked the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties with the declaration of a “Year of Friendship.” Last April, the celebrations started with a high-profile ceremony in Pyongyang, attended by Zhao Leji, China’s third-ranking official. During his meeting with Choe Ryung Hae, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Zhao expressed a desire to expand high-level exchanges. This fueled speculation about a potential summit between the two nations. However, the “friendship year” ended quietly, with no follow-up events or closing ceremony after the initial fanfare.

In contrast, the Korean Central News Agency’s website now features a section titled “A Historic Turning Point.
