Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, recently praised Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, for achieving the remarkable feat of building a supercomputer in just 19 days.
According to a Business Insider report on Monday, Jensen Huang, speaking on a podcast, described the accomplishment as “superhuman,” adding, “And, as far as I know, there’s only one person in the world who could do that” — referring to Elon Musk.
Huang highlighted Musk’s impressive skills. “Elon is singular in this understanding of engineering and construction and large systems and marshaling resources,” he said.
In September, xAI launched a supercomputer named Colossus, utilizing a cluster of 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Musk revealed that it took 19 days from hardware installation to the start of training.
In response, Jensen Huang remarked that a cluster of 100,000 GPUs represents the fastest supercomputer in the world. He added that such projects typically take around three years to complete, with the first year often dedicated solely to setting up the hardware.
In addition to Colossus, xAI released its latest AI chatbot, Grok-2, in August. Earlier this year, the company announced that it raised $6 billion in a new funding round.
