United Airlines plans to partner with Starlink to offer in-flight internet services on all its passenger planes.
The airline announced on Sunday that it will begin testing Starlink for in-flight Wi-Fi this month. The company aims to provide connectivity on commercial flights operated by Embraer E-175 aircraft this spring.
In a statement, United Airlines confirmed that Starlink will eventually be available across its entire fleet.
The carrier plans to equip its entire regional fleet of dual-cabin aircraft with the service by the end of 2025 and introduce the first Starlink-enabled planes on major routes by the end of this year.
However, United has revised its earlier plan to offer complimentary Wi-Fi to all passengers. The airline now states that free access will be limited to MileagePlus members.
Starlink plans to expand beyond its initial focus on providing internet access to consumers and households in underserved rural areas worldwide. The company is now partnering with several airlines to offer in-flight internet services.
Last year, United Airlines signed a deal with Starlink to provide Wi-Fi across its entire fleet of over 1,000 aircraft in the coming years.
Starlink has also secured agreements with Hawaiian Airlines and regional carrier JSX.
United Airlines’ stock price remained stable at $95.67.
