Two North Korean citizens who criticized Kim Yo Jong, the deputy director of the Worker’s Party and the sister of North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, have reportedly been arrested and their families missing.

Daily NK received information from their sources in South Hwanghae Province that the Ministry of State Security detained two residents of Haeju in October. Their arrest came after they made remarks about Kim’s statements regarding a drone incident in Pyongyang. The families of the arrested individuals reportedly vanished the day following the arrests.

It is believed that the two privately shared criticisms of Kim and the North Korean regime when another resident overheard their conversation and informed the Ministry of State Security.

The detained individuals allegedly made comments such as, “It’s disgusting to see a woman in a skirt acting so brazenly,” “What does a woman know to be lecturing others?” and “Shouldn’t she be more concerned about helping the people struggling in this country’s economic situation?”

They also expressed concerns about the recent tensions between North and South Korea, reportedly stating, “For this country to collapse quickly, a war needs to happen. If war breaks out, everyone will flee to South Korea or China.”

Daily NK reported that the sudden disappearance of the families the day after the arrests has sparked anxiety among residents.

A source stated, “The local community was shocked by the overnight disappearance of two families and remains on edge. Such incidents occur periodically in Haeju because the residents are more politically aware due to its proximity to South Korea.”
