Seventeen’s ‘MAESTRO’ Hits Billboard Charts

Daniel Kim Views

Seventeen is making impressive results on both album sales and significant global music charts.

According to the latest Billboard chart released on May 7th, the title track “MAESTRO” from Seventeen’s best album, 17 IS RIGHT HERE, debuted at 91st and 40th on the Billboard Global 200 and Global (Excl U.S.) charts.

Billboard compiles these chart rankings based on digital music streaming and sales in over 200 countries and regions from Friday to Thursday each week. The song “MAESTRO,” released at 6 PM Korean time last Monday, ranked on both major charts based on the performance of just under four days.

“MAESTRO” is a song co-written and composed by Seventeen’s album producer Woozi. It swept the iTunes Top Songs charts in 32 countries/regions immediately after its release and ranked first on the worldwide song chart. It also maintains high rankings on domestic music charts such as Melon, Genie Music, Bugs, Flo, YouTube Music, and Naver Vibe.

The song “MAESTRO” continues to receive rave reviews from international media. CNBC in the U.S. described it as “a showcase of Seventeen’s versatility over the past nine years.” The Associated Press called it a “cheerful R&B genre song with an attractive EDM hook,” adding that it “condenses Seventeen’s past sound and current tendencies.” India Times, an English newspaper in India, praised the song and said it “demonstrates their ability to expand boundaries while maintaining Seventeen’s unique style.”

Seventeen’s best album, 17 IS RIGHT HERE, recorded over 2.96 million sales in its first week of release and achieved double million-seller status on the day of its release. This is an exceptional achievement, considering it’s the best album with previous hit songs. The album also topped the Oricon weekly album ranking in Japan as of May 13th, from April 29th to May 5th.

Seventeen is expected to continue the “MAESTRO” craze with appearances on various music shows. They are also set to meet with global fans by holding Seventeen’s tour FOLLOW’ AGAIN at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka, Japan, on May 18th and 19th, and at Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa, Japan, on May 25th and 26th.
