In online communities, a post titled ‘Annual Salary of a 13-year-old Building Owner’ has recently created a buzz.

The survey results showed that the number of minor CEOs, mainly in the real estate rental business, has significantly increased.

On the 10th, the National Health Insurance Service announced that as of June this year, 390 minors under 18 are business owners. This is an increase of 85 from 2018.

Among them, the average annual salary of the top 10 earners reached about $110K, and the highest earner, a 13-year-old middle school student, reportedly earned $200K annually, causing a stir.

Minor CEOs could earn a lot of money because most profit from real estate rental businesses.

Among the 390 minor business owners under 18, 88.2%, or 344 representatives, made profits through real estate rental businesses.

The number of minor real estate rental business representatives has continuously increased, with 267 in 2018, 319 in 2020, and 333 in 2022. Moreover, like an 8-year-old elementary school student landlord who earns more than $7,400 a month, the age of the representatives is also getting younger.

Meanwhile, most of the minor landlords were found to have rented out commercial buildings. As of 2021, out of 3,136 minor landlords, 2,820 rented out commercial buildings, and their average annual rental income was revealed to be $13K.
