It’s a medical human drama capturing the everyday life and love stories of doctors at a large hospital in Seattle. The show gained immense popularity in Korea, mainly due to the participation of Sandra Oh, a Korean-Canadian actress.

However, there is another actor with a Korean connection besides Sandra Oh.

It’s Katherine Heigl, who played the role of Izzie Stevens.

Katherine Heigl’s sister, Meg Heigl, is an adoptee from Korea.

Heigl is known to have a close relationship with Meg, even serving as a bridesmaid at her wedding.

She once warmed the hearts of netizens by saying, “My parents adopted my sister in the 70s. She is my sister and my best friend.”

Perhaps because of this, Heigl once revealed in an interview, “When I was young, my parents adopted a Korean sister. Since then, I was sure I would adopt a Korean child.

In 2009, she adopted Naleigh, a Korean girl who was suffering from a heart condition at the time, which became a hot topic.

Heigl decided to adopt Naleigh immediately after seeing her through the adoption agency, Holt Children’s Services, in Korea.

Even more, Heigl showed exceptional affection by dying her blonde hair black so that young Naleigh would not be scared of it.

After the adoption, she even stepped down from the hit series Grey’s Anatomy to focus on bonding with her daughter.

Her husband, singer Josh Kelley, also openly expressed his love for Naleigh.

Kelley wrote a song dedicated to Naleigh called “Naleigh Moon,” and the music video showcased Naleigh growing up happily in a loving family, demonstrating his love for his daughter.

They even got a tattoo of ’23’, taken from Naleigh’s birthday on November 23, showcasing their close mother-daughter relationship.

As these actions became known, Heigl’s popularity soared in Korea.

In response, Heigl thanked her Korean fans in Korean to coincide with the Korean release of her 2012 film One for the Money.

Heigl often leaves messages in Korean on her social media, receiving love from her Korean fans.

In appreciation, Korean fans even gave Heigl a loving nickname, Kim Seorin.

But Heigl’s heartwarming actions don’t stop there.

In 2012, she adopted her second daughter, Adelaide.

Through her social media, Heigl expressed her love for her daughters, saying, ‘I am grateful for these beautiful children, and for all the joy, laughter, love, and grace they have brought into my life.’

Fans responded to Heigl’s heartwarming actions with comments such as, “I loved her character in ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ it’s even more delightful to see her like this,” and “It’s touching to see that she even dyed her hair, being a Hollywood blonde beauty.”

Currently, Heigl is raising one son and two daughters, and in 2021, she received immense love for her role in the Netflix series Firefly Lane.
