OpenAI’s Game Changer: New Tool Lets You Craft Your Own AI Chatbot!

Daniel Kim Views

Artificial Intelligence (AI) related software is increasingly being introduced in various fields. Many businesses, organizations, and individuals are developing and launching AI functions, making AI more accessible to the general consumer. However, finding an AI suitable for a specific use environment remains challenging. Sometimes, one wishes they were proficient enough in programming to create the AI function they desire. The thought of being able to create your own AI function is indeed appealing.

Recently, news that could alleviate such frustrations has been announced. The AI technology development company OpenAI has launched GPT, which allows anyone to create their own chatbot easily.

What is GPT? A ‘Custom ChatGPT’ optimized for specific fields

ChatGPT is likened to a versatile assistant. It can help in various fields, but it is difficult to regard it as an expert in a single field. OpenAI mentioned that many users asked to optimize ChatGPT for the field they wanted. In July of this year, OpenAI released a guide to changing some basic settings of ChatGPT. Users can focus on training in their desired field by changing some settings according to the guide.

Users proficient in programming have devised and applied a set of sophisticated prompts (commands) and instruction lists according to their usage environment or purpose. However, not all ChatGPT users are proficient in handling prompts.

OpenAI planned ‘GPT’ so that even users unfamiliar with programming can adjust the expertise of ChatGPT. It’s a ‘custom ChatGPT’ specialized in the user’s desired field.

The most significant advantage of GPT is that it is easy to make. There is no need to prepare additional datasets or create separate training models. Almost no knowledge of programming or prompts is required. If the user provides simple instructions, GPT is created. There is also a way to utilize the existing ChatGPT with the simplest means. It’s enough to ask ChatGPT to create a certain GPT.

GPT application field, virtually ‘unlimited’

What field can GPT be applied to? There is no particular restriction. It is enough to have the morality that existing AI obeys.

Examples of use introduced through OpenAI’s homepage include △GPT explaining various board game rules △GPT proofreading sentences △GPT helping with home appliance settings and problem solving △GPT giving laundry-related advice △GPT suggesting recipes based on favorite foods and available ingredients △GPT helping with math studies.

It is also possible to optimize for a specific service by referring to an external API. Email service providers can create a GPT that summarizes email content and drafts replies as an option, and shopping site operators can add a GPT-based chatbot to their homepage that analyzes customer tastes and recommends appropriate products.

GPT trading platform ‘GPT Store’ opens later this month

GPT can be shared with others. However, it’s hard to get the word out if you want to develop and share a useful GPT but don’t have a suitable promotional means. Conversely, knowing where to find a GPT created by someone else is daunting.

GPT Store / TechCrunch

OpenAI announced it plans to launch a trading platform called ‘GPT Store’ later this month. Like Google Play or Apple App Store, anyone can register as a developer and share the GPT they created. It is also possible to sell GPT for a fee. According to an OpenAI announcement, GPTs registered in the GPT Store will be divided into various categories, such as productivity, education, and entertainment, and will also be ranked by popularity.

GPT’s level of personal information protection is ‘on par with ChatGPT’

When using AI assistant services like ChatGPT, one tends to be sensitive about personal information leakage. For the chatbot to operate, it needs to analyze the chat content, and in this process, important file content, personal information, and location information can be recognized as reference targets and temporarily stored on the server. Even services provided directly by big tech companies cannot be fully trusted, and it is worrisome what information a GPT created by an individual might collect.

OpenAI emphasized applying the same personal information protection standards to GPT as ChatGPT. Developers can set up to use the user’s conversation with GPT to improve and educate the GPT model. However, what users request from GPT or chat content is not transmitted to the developer.

If GPT refers to a third-party API, it must obtain the user’s consent as to whether it is okay to send data to that API. If a GPT containing fraud or harmful content is discovered, it can be reported using the reporting function on the GPT sharing page.

GPT is currently being provided to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise membership users in sample form. OpenAI announced that it plans to expand the application so that more users can use GPT soon.
