Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the G20 virtual summit hosted online by India on the 22nd (local time).
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced during a briefing on the 20th, “President Putin will participate in the G20 virtual summit and plans to give a speech on the current turbulent situation.”
Since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant in March over allegations related to the Ukraine situation, including forced child migration, Putin has been cautious about traveling abroad.
He did not attend the G20 summits held in Bali, Indonesia, in November last year and New Delhi in September, sending Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in his place. He also attended the BRICS summit held in South Africa in August via video conference.
Meanwhile, the Indian government will host this year’s G20 virtual conference on the 22nd.
