Kim Jong Un’s Daughter Kim Ju Ae
Called “Morning Star of Korea”
Signs of Fourth-Generation Succession
On the 23rd, a commemorative lecture was held in Pyongyang for the successful launch of North Korea’s military reconnaissance satellite, Malligyong-1.
At this event, the Organization and Guidance Department of the Workers’ Party emphasized that the reconnaissance satellite, constantly seizing the military orbit of hostile forces with the highest dignity, has been deployed in space, opening the era of space power in Korea. They further stated that the future of the era of space power will shine even brighter under the “Morning Star of Korea.”
The “Morning Star of Korea” mentioned here refers to Kim Ju Ae, the daughter of Kim Jong Un.
Previously, in November last year, during the test launch of a new ICBM, Kim Ju Ae, who first appeared on the official platform holding Kim Jong Un’s hand, was referred to as a “beloved child” and “respected child.”
Some argue that the title change indicates that North Korea is accelerating the idolization of Kim Ju Ae with the fourth succession in mind.
“Morning Star of Korea” is a term used by North Korea to promote Kim Il Sung’s early revolutionary activities, and Kim Jong Un was also called “Morning Star General” in his childhood.
In response, a government official from the Ministry of Unification said, “There is currently no content to confirm,” but also stated, “The succession structure is a critical issue, so we are carefully monitoring it with related agencies.”
Meanwhile, Kim Ju Ae, who appeared in November last year, has shown actions that could be interpreted as a successor by appearing in North Korean public reports 18 times a year. On September 9, during the military parade commemorating the establishment of the North Korean regime, the scene of Park Jung Cheon, the second in the military hierarchy, kneeling and whispering to Kim Ju Ae, who was sitting in the presidium, was also released.
However, there are also assessments that it is premature to specify Kim Ju Ae as a successor, as the existence of Kim Jong Un’s first son is uncertain. The National Intelligence Service reported to the National Assembly Intelligence Committee 2017 that Kim Jong Un has a son.
