According to Rodong Sinmun on the 7th of the month, North Korean Secretary Kim Jong Un inspected a major operations training base in the western district.

The newspaper reported, “Secretary Kim Jong Un visited the People’s Army’s fundamental operations training base in the western district on the 6th of the month, toured the training facilities, and directed the units’ live training.”

Secretary Kim specifically emphasized understanding the primary operations of facilities in the training base and various training field elements mentioning “Proper management should be done to contribute to the actual strengthening of the People’s Army’s combat power.”.

The paper explained that Secretary Kim climbed up to the observation post, received a report on the live training progress plan, and directed the training.

Secretary Kim said, “I am very pleased and reassured to see the excellent appearance of soldiers who show their brave spirit of a real fighter in a training environment like real combat,” and encouraged the soldiers.

He also said, “The army must constantly strengthen the live training to dramatically improve combat power, thoroughly suppress even a trivial provocation of war, and deter the constant threat of enemies with overwhelming power.”

Furthermore, he highlighted, “All levels of the entire army are required to open a new heyday of strengthening war readiness complying with the requirements of the current state of affairs”.

Secretary Kim also took a commemorative photo and said, “The army must continue to reliably play the role of the protagonist of our great era, bearing heavily the faith and expectations of the party and the people,” the paper added.

Rodong Sinmun reported that on the day of the local inspection, Kang Soon Nam, Minister of National Defense, and Ri Yong Gil, Chief of Staff of the People’s Army, Deputy Chief of Staff of the People’s Army General Staff, Director of Combat Training, Commander of the Key Mission Performance Unit, and other members of the Korean People’s Army command welcomed Pak Jong Chon who is a secretary and vice-chairman of the Party Central Military Commission and Secretary Kim.

The North Korean military’s mobile training on the day appears to be a response to the US-South Korea regular joint training, ‘Freedom Shield’ joint training.
