President Joe Biden defended his unstable appearance at the first presidential TV debate last Friday, claiming it was due to “fatigue from overseas tours.”

According to the White House press corps, Biden admitted his poor performance in the TV debate at a Tuesday fundraiser in Virginia, near Washington, D.C. He told donors it was “not very wise” to have done multiple overseas trip rounds ahead of the debate.

“I didn’t have my best night but the fact is that you know, I wasn’t very smart. I decided to travel around the world a couple times, going through around 100 time zones. For real, I think it was about 15 time zones.”

Biden blamed his excessive international travel schedule for his disjointed performance, calling it “not an excuse but an explanation,” according to Reuters.

He visited Italy in June to attend the G7 summit and conducted a state visit to France.
