Russia Gathers 7,000 Heavily Armed North Korean Soldiers Ready for Combat

Yonhap News

Ukrainian military intelligence revealed on Saturday alarming information about North Korean troop movements. They claim that Russia has deployed over 7,000 North Korean soldiers along the Ukrainian border, equipping them with advanced weaponry.

According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), these troops were moved from Russia’s coastal regions to the Ukrainian front lines in late November. The DIU reports that at least 28 Russian Aerospace FOrces transport planes transferred the North Korean soldiers, who are now armed with an array of weapons, including 60mm mortars, Phoenix anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), AK-12 rifles, and RPK/PKM machine guns.

The DIU also revealed that the North Korean troops have been provided with advanced equipment such as night vision goggles, thermal imaging cameras, optical sights, and telescopes. They are said to be undergoing combat preparation at five training facilities in Russia’s Far East.

Russian forces reportedly refer to these North Korean soldiers as “special Buryats,” a term borrowed from the Buryay people, an indigenous Mongol ethnic group native to Russia’s Buryatia republic. Ukrainian Intelligence suggests that North Korean troops may carry documents disguising them as Buryats.

Adding to the concerns, U.S. officials announced on October 30 that approximately 8,000 North Korean soldiers were preparing for combat operations in Russia’s Kursk region.
