North Korea’s state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Monday that the Russian government delegation, led by Alexander Kozlov, received a warm reception upon their arrival in Pyongyang. Yun Jong Ho, North Korea’s Minister of External Economic Affairs and head of the North Korean delegation, greeted the Russian officials at Pyongyang International Airport. Alexander Matsegora, the Russian Ambassador to North Korea, was also present at the welcoming ceremony.
High-level exchanges between the two nations have grown markedly since last year’s summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The signing of a treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership in June further solidified their cooperation. While military collaboration has drawn the most attention, the partnership also spans trade, cultural initiatives, and scientific and technological developments, reflecting a broadening scope of engagement.
