CBS News reported on Wednesday that President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his inauguration scheduled for January 20 next year. According to CBS, Trump extended invitations to Xi and other foreign leaders shortly after last month’s election.

It remains uncertain whether Xi has accepted Trump’s invitation. However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is reportedly considering attending. Department of State records indicate no foreign leaders have attended a U.S. presidential inauguration since 1874.

Last month, Xi congratulated Trump’s victory via phone, during which Trump emphasized China’s potential crucial role in addressing the Ukraine conflict.

While reaching out to Xi, Trump is simultaneously preparing a robust policy to counter China. He has pledged to impose a 60% tariff on Chinese imports and recently announced plans to implement an additional 10% tariff on China until issues related to fentanyl and other drugs are resolved.

Furthermore, Trump has nominated China hawks for key positions, tapping Senator Marco Rubio for Secretary of State and Representative Mike Waltz for National Security Advisor.
