The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Friday that the book Donald Trump sent to Ishiba Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, through Akie Abe was, in fact, Trump’s personal photo album.

The photo book includes Trump’s handwritten signature and the letter “PEACE.” The Yomiuri noted, “Trump has insisted that he will end the war in Ukraine and Gaza immediately,” adding, “Some say it shows his determination to realize peace.”

During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, Trump expressed his willingness to meet with Prime Minister Ishiba if the Japanese government desires such a meeting. He confirmed that he had sent gifts to Ishiba through Akie Abe, including the book.

Reports indicate that Trump has also conveyed to the Japanese government his openness to an initial meeting with Ishiba before his inauguration.

The Yomiuri reported that while an early meeting could foster trust, it would not constitute an official summit, leading to some cautious opinions within the Japanese government. The Yomiuri also said that amid growing calls to take advantage of limited opportunities, Ishiba has begun a schedule adjustment.

The Mainichi Shimbun reported that the Japanese government and ruling party initially considered convening the regular parliamentary session around January 21 but are now adjusting to hold it on January 24. This adjustment appears to be aimed at accommodating potential scheduling with the U.S.

Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025.
