Cohere, a Toronto-based security-first artificial intelligence company, announced Tuesday its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region, unveiling plans to establish a new office in Seoul.
The Seoul office will serve as a hub for business growth and innovation throughout the region, highlighting Korea’s growing importance in the global AI landscape.
“We’re thrilled to build a strong local team, support forward-thinking clients, and collaborate with government bodies to deliver impactful and secure AI solutions that boost economic productivity,” said Cohere CEO and co-founder Aidan Gomez.
To spearhead this initiative, the company has tapped Andrew Chang as the new president of Cohere APAC. Chang brings extensive experience from executive roles at tech giants including Google Cloud, Microsoft, IBM, and Samsung SDS.
Cohere has already begun recruiting top talent in Korea to accelerate the adoption of secure, multilingual AI solutions across regulated sectors handling sensitive data, such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing.
The company will also launch Cohere Labs, a research grants program, and strengthen partnerships with industry leaders. One such partnership is with LG CNS, a Korean IT solutions provider under LG Group, with whom Cohere recently secured a major public sector AI project for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Founded in 2019 by three former Google Brain researchers, Cohere has raised an impressive $970 million from major investors, including Nvidia Corporation and AMD. The company’s current valuation is estimated at approximately $5.5 billion.
