Huis Ten Bosch, located in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, in Kyushu, Japan, is a European-style theme park. It’s a must-visit spot when traveling to Nagasaki, boasting its status as the largest theme park in the country, spanning over 1.6 million square yards (1.3 square km) with canals stretching over 3.7 miles (6 km).

The park gives off the ambiance of medieval Netherlands. It is named after one of the three official residences of the Dutch royal family, emulating a Dutch village.

Huis Ten Bosch translates to “House in the Forest.” It was established in 1992 to commemorate the long-standing friendly relations between Japan and the Netherlands. Visitors can enjoy the Netherlands’ unique architecture, windmills, tulips, and other country symbols.

In addition to its six kingdoms, Huis Ten Bosch hosts events like the Flower World Conference, Wine Festival, French Painting Exhibition, and Christmas Market. The park’s Rose Street, the largest in Asia and the first of its kind in Japan is particularly awe-inspiring.

Spring in Huis Ten Bosch is adorned with countless flowers, with an annual Tulip Festival taking place. Visitors can enjoy the colorful tulips that cover the entire park during this period. There’s also the option to take a boat ride along the park’s canal.

The park’s illumination attractions offer a dazzling night view as the sun sets. With various attractions to enjoy, it’s a place where you can spend the whole day without running out of things to do. If you want to take your time exploring Huis Ten Bosch, staying in a European-style accommodation or a lakeside villa is a good option.

Huis Ten Bosch is a popular travel destination among Korean tourists. Recently, one of the park’s attractions has been gaining attention among these visitors.

The park has introduced a new three-story carousel. The Sky Carousel – Merry Go Round attraction opened on December 22 last year. It’s the first three-story carousel in Japan and is known as one of the largest in the world, creating quite a buzz.

The three-story carousel at Huis Ten Bosch received significant attention when it was unveiled in Japan. There was even an opening ceremony where members of HKT48, the ambassadors for the 30th anniversary of Huis Ten Bosch, made an appearance.

The carousel’s grand scale is impressive, and the whimsical design can make visitors feel like they’ve returned to their childhood.

The carousel stands 49 feet (15m) tall, allowing visitors to enjoy the feeling of strolling in the sky day and night. The views from the carousel vary between day and night, so it’s recommended to experience both. During the day, you can take in the exotic scenery of European streets and canals.

At night, the dazzling lights create a more romantic atmosphere. The exterior of Sky Carousel – Merry Go Round often gives the impression of a scene from a fairy tale.

Especially if you visit Huis Ten Bosch at the end of the year, the romantic illuminations can make for an emotionally rich trip.

③ The Perfect Way to Enjoy Christmas

If you want to enjoy Sky Carousel – Merry Go Round more romantically, visiting during the Christmas of Light Street event is recommended. The event runs from November 10 to January 8 at Huis Ten Bosch. It’s a Christmas-themed festival that only happens once a year. Every winter, many people visit Huis Ten Bosch to enjoy the Christmas festival.

European-style buildings are wrapped in dazzling lights, stirring up admiration. The Kingdom of Light, the largest theme park in Japan, lives up to its name with its spectacular illuminations. The festival features fireworks and snow-like effects, offering an emotionally rich winter experience. Skating while overlooking the European streets during the festival is also fun. At night, Huis Ten Bosch is lit up by fantastic lights, making you feel as if you’re really in Europe.

The highlight is undoubtedly the brightly illuminated Sky Carousel – Merry Go Round in Christmas Town. It’s a place where you can enjoy various performances, food, Christmas markets, and attractions. You can fully immerse yourself in the perfect Christmas atmosphere with carols playing in the streets. Huis Ten Bosch is a great place to visit all year round, but if you want to spend a warm winter, it might be a good idea to create special memories here.
