New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport has been named the U.S. airport with the longest wait times.

The New York Post recently ranked U.S. airports with the most extended waiting times based on a study conducted by luggage storage company Bounce in 2023. This ranking was determined by combining the average wait times for security checks and passport inspections at all U.S. airports.

According to a recent survey, John F. Kennedy International Airport had the longest average wait time of 48 minutes and 24 seconds. The average wait time at security checkpoints was 22 minutes and 48 seconds, while the average wait time at immigration counters was 25 minutes and 36 seconds.

However, Palm Beach International Airport in Florida had the longest average security checking time. The average wait time for passport control was only 2 minutes and 36 seconds, but the security checking time significantly exceeded the average of 34 minutes and 6 seconds.

Palm Beach International Airport is known for its rigorous security checks. Last year’s average security check wait time was 36 minutes, which has decreased by 2 minutes this year. However, Palm Beach International Airport did not reach the top ten, falling outside the top ranks.

San Francisco International Airport in California took the second top spot. The average wait time for security checks was 25 minutes 36 seconds, and the average wait time for passport control was 21 minutes 42 seconds, making the total average wait time 47 minutes 18 seconds. The difference in average wait time with John F. Kennedy International Airport was a mere 1 second.

Miami International Airport in Florida ranked third. The average wait time for security checks was 22 minutes 42 seconds, and the average for passport control was 23 minutes 12 seconds. The total average wait time was 45 minutes 53 seconds.

Following close behind, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Orlando International Airport in Florida ranked fourth and fifth. Among the top five airports, three are in Florida, marking it as the state with the most extended average airport wait times of 53.

On the other hand, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland took the crown for the shortest wait time. The average security wait time was 4 minutes, and the average passport control wait time was 10 minutes and 48 seconds, with an impressive average wait time of 14 minutes and 48 seconds.
