Doing Nothing is Winning: Seoul’s Space-Out Competition

inews24 Views

Seoul’s iconic event where the person who does nothing comes out on top, the Seoul Hangang Spacing Out Competition, will take place at the Banpo Hangang Park, Jamsoo Bridge, on May 12th at 4 PM.

After the slogan “Allow me to space out!” echoed in Seoul Square in 2014, the event has been held at the Han River since 2016. Now in its 10th year, the spacing out event reflects the intention of breaking the societal notion that doing nothing is falling behind or worthless in our fast-paced modern society. It has now become an essential cultural element for modern people’s mindfulness.

Citizens who wish to participate can apply through the official Spacing Out Competition website from 9 AM on the 26th to midnight on the 29th. The application will close early if more than 3000 teams register.

Yong Tae Ju, the director of the Future Han River Office in Seoul, stated that the Han River Spacing Out Competition offers fresh and unique fun in nature. The event is even more meaningful as it marks its 10th year. The director delivered his message, hoping this competition could offer a chance to recharge by taking a break from the busy modern life and working for a while.
