They Started as Brothers and Ended Up Sisters — Here’s How

A story of two brothers from Vietnam who underwent gender-affirming surgery and are now living as sisters was shared.

South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the story of Nguyen Van Nga, 36, and Nguyen Van Chau, 33, from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The siblings transitioned from brothers to sisters through gender-affirming surgery.

Nga, the elder sibling, reportedly enjoyed wearing dresses and playing with dolls from a young age. As he grew older and realized his gender identity was not male, Nga decided to take gender-affirming surgery.

Their father, Nguyen Van Nga, disapproved and even resorted to violence, hitting Nga and tying his legs to prevent him from leaving the house. When Nga ran away, his mother persuaded her husband to accept Nga’s decision to undertake gender-affirming surgery.

After witnessing his brother’s surgery, the younger sibling, Chau, also expressed his desire to receive gender-affirming surgery. The parents fully supported Chau’s decision by covering all the surgery costs.

Now living as sisters, Nga and Chau reportedly run an online shopping mall. Chau is married to a man who is two years younger, and Nga was married for nine years but divorced because her husband wanted children.

Their father expressed his love for his daughters, saying, “I am proud every time I hear people praising the beauty of my two daughters. They are now like jewels to me.” Nga and Chau mentioned their gratitude to their supportive parents. They urged parents of other LGBTQ+ children to create an environment where their children can grow with their ability to freely decide on how they identify themselves.
