USA Today = Yonhap News

US Open golf champion Wyndham Clark suffers a back injury ahead of the Masters Tournament.

Wyndham Clark, who won the US Open last year, has encountered an emergency situation due to a back injury just before the Masters Tournament.

According to reports from Reuters, AFP, and other sources on the 28th, Clark, currently ranked 4th in the world golf rankings, injured his back while lifting weights at a gym in Scottsdale, Arizona, a few days ago.

Clark is scheduled to tee off at 2:53 a.m. on the 29th at the Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, for the first round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

“I wasn’t feeling great until yesterday, but with the help of the medical team, I managed to practice chipping and putting,” said Clark. “I’ve seen significant improvement in a short time, so I believe I’ll be able to compete in this week’s tournament.”

However, with the Masters Tournament, the first major tournament of the year, just two weeks away, there are concerns about his performance due to the injury.

Clark has had a successful season on the PGA Tour, winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and finishing as runner-up in consecutive weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship in March.

He is regarded as a contender to challenge world number one Scottie Scheffler (USA) in the Masters, which begins on April 11th.
