The cause of death for American golfer Grayson Murray, who withdrew from the PGA Tour event (Charles Schwab Challenge) last week and passed away, has been revealed.

Golf Week reported on the 26th that “the deceased’s family confirmed through a statement that the cause of death was suicide.”

In the statement, the family wrote, “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.”

The deceased withdrew from the 16th hole of the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge. He told the playing partners that “he wasn’t feeling well” and passed away the next day at his accommodation near the tournament venue, the Colonial Country Club. He was 30 years old.

It is known that the deceased struggled with alcohol addiction and depression during his lifetime.

Jay Monahan, PGA Tour Commissioner, expressed his condolences the day before, saying, “We were devastated to learn—and are heartbroken to share—that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

Monahan expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family. The family wanted the tournament to continue. Monahan arranged for grief counselors at the tournament venue.

The deceased had his second career win on the tour at the Sony Open last January. His first win was at the 2017 Barbasol Championship.

After winning the Sony Open, the deceased had said, “I overcame alcohol addiction to be here.”
