The Texas Rangers have extended their winning streak to six games in the Fall Classic. The Rangers have taken the first game of the American League Championship Series (ALCS, best of seven) against the Houston Astros.

On the 16th (Korean time), Texas defeated Houston 2-0 in the first away game of the ALCS held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. With this victory, Texas continues its unbeaten streak in the postseason, including two consecutive wins in the Wild Card Series and three consecutive wins in the American League Division Series (ALDS).

The star of the victory was left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery. Montgomery pitched a gem against the Houston lineup, throwing 6.1 innings with five hits, one walk, six strikeouts, and no runs.

Following Montgomery, the relief pitchers and closer José Leclerc held the Houston lineup scoreless.

In the top of the second inning, with one out and no runners on base, Evan Carter hit a double against Houston’s starting pitcher, Justin Verlander. Johan Heim, who came to bat next, hit an RBI single to score the game’s first run.

In the top of the fifth inning, with one out and no runners on base, Leody Taveras hit a crucial solo home run, bringing in an additional run. Texas successfully held onto the lead until the end of the game, securing a victory in the opening series.

Verlander also pitched well that day, throwing 6.2 innings with six hits (one home run), two walks, five strikeouts, and two runs, but was let down by his team’s lack of offensive support. The second game of the series will be held at the same venue on the 17th.
