News has been announced that the iconic art style of SpongeBob SquarePants is getting a revamp.

On the 8th, U.S. media outlet Screen Rant reported that SpongeBob, the main character of SpongeBob SquarePants, will be redesigned in various animation styles.

First released in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most beloved long-standing animation programs on TV. It is in its 14th season, and the next episode, the 15th, is set to air on November 21st.

From now on, SpongeBob’s story will be depicted with a new design from character designer Soi Riche. The nine versions of SpongeBob revealed by the designer guide how the character might appear in specific situations.

The transformed SpongeBob will be drawn with lighter colors and thinner lines than the previous character. Additionally, his signature big, sparkling blue eyes are expected to appear less frequently than before.

SpongeBob’s modern transformation has elicited reactions such as “This is much better,” “It’s perfect,” and “It makes me want to draw it,” but there have also been contrasting responses such as “It’s still a pity” and “I miss the old version.”

Meanwhile, SpongeBob has shown continuous evolution over the past 24 years. This character, which started as a simple 2D style drawn by hand, also appeared in 3D in the 2015 film SpongeBob 3D set in a live-action landscape.
