A man in his twenties, known as Mr. A, who impersonated a member of BTS and stole undisclosed music and military service-related information, has been sentenced to prison in the first trial.

According to the legal community, on the 24th, the Seoul Central District Court, Criminal 27th Single (Judge Ham Hyun-ji), sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, to one year in prison on the 19th.

Mr. A is accused of impersonating a BTS member in August 2022 and approaching Producer B to receive an undisclosed guide track. In November of the same year, he pretended to be Mr. B and approached SUGA to collect information related to military service.

He is also charged with impersonating another member, V, and receiving over ten undisclosed music files from another producer, as well as unauthorized extraction of information such as undisclosed album release information and music information from the agency, personal information of affiliated singers, and personal details (obstruction of business).

The court explained, “Mr. A has a history of being sentenced to prison for a crime similar to this case,” and added, “The damage has not been recovered at all, and he has not received forgiveness from the victims.”

The court continued, “Due to Mr. A’s actions, it is likely that the victims and the victimized company have suffered considerable financial and social damage. The victims who delivered the undisclosed information appear to have suffered significant mental damage.” However, “Mr. A is currently showing a repentant attitude. The defendant’s family is also promising guidance,” explaining the reasons for the sentencing.

Meanwhile, Mr. A, who had previously participated in the song production of a famous idol group, has filed an appeal against the first trial verdict.
