Tesla announced that it had surpassed the cumulative production of 5 million units this week. After surpassing the production of 1 million units in early 2020, which took 12 years, Tesla announced that it exceeded 4 million units again in just 7 months since surpassing 3 million units on Investor Day on March 1st. And now, it has exceeded 5 million units again in just 6 months.
Tesla currently has production capacity of 100,000 Model S and Model X in California, 550,000 Model 3 and Model Y, 750,000 Model 3 and Model Y in Gigafactory Shanghai, 375,000 Model Y in Gigafactory Berlin, and 250,000 Model Y in Gigafactory Texas.
Tesla expected a slight decrease in production volume in the third quarter due to factory upgrades, including a temporary closure of Gigafactory Shanghai to produce the new Model 3.
