Kremlin: ‘Still Investigating Allegations of Ukraine Terror Involvement’

Advises to “Re-read what President Putin has recently said, his words are important”

Reuters Yonhap News

The Kremlin in Russia has taken a cautious stance, stating that it is too early to comment on Russia’s response to allegations of Ukraine’s involvement in the Moscow concert hall terror attack.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, said to the Russian TASS news agency on the 26th (local time), “We are still investigating. It would be inappropriate to speculate based on ‘what ifs’ at this point.”

He responded this way to a question asking, “If Ukraine’s involvement in the terror is confirmed, will it affect Russia’s preparation for participating in peace talks?”

This position comes as Russia has continued to raise the possibility of Ukrainian involvement in the terror attack.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, while confirming that the terror was the act of radical Islamists, continued to raise the possibility that Ukraine could be behind the terror, stating, “We need to find out who ordered the terror attack.”

President Putin claimed that this attack could be one of a series of attempts by the Ukrainian regime to attack Russia.

“I recommend you to carefully re-read what President Putin has said over the past two days (about the alleged terrorist involvement),” Spokesperson Peskov said in an official briefing, adding that President Putin’s words are “very important in this context.”

He also added that if necessary, the investigative authorities would issue an official statement.

However, when asked if “there could be a connection between Islamists and the Jewish-led Ukrainian leadership”, he left a lingering impression by saying, “There are unique Jews.”

He also strongly criticized, “There are people who mock the terror. Those people are trash.”

In an interview with the local media Argumenty i Fakty (Aif) reported that day, Spokesperson Peskov criticized the idea of Russia being excluded from the discussion on peace in Ukraine as “absurd and pointless.”

He emphasized, “Can the Ukrainian issue be resolved without Russia’s participation? The answer is clear. It’s impossible.”

Regarding Ukraine’s demand for the restoration of the 2014 border, including Crimea, as a condition of the peace plan, “How can we accept the existence of a neighboring country trying to take Crimea by force?” he said, adding that it was important for Ukraine to make it clear that it has no plans to attack Russia.

Regarding Russian and Belarusian athletes only being able to participate in the July Paris Olympics as individual neutrals, he said, “There are many athletes for whom participating in the Olympics is very important. They may not have other opportunities,” adding that the athletes’ decisions should be respected.

“The Russian ambassador to France has been trying for weeks to contact the organizers of the Paris Olympic, but in vain. We don’t know how we can provide them with supplies, accommodation, medicine, doping control to participating athletes,” he said, adding that athletes should take this into account.
