A shocking shooting incident at a polling station during Mexico’s presidential election resulted in at least two fatalities.

According to El Universal and El Sol de Puebla, on the 2nd, in the central Mexican state of Puebla, in Coyoacán, armed intruders stormed a polling station. They threatened voters and election officials, which resulted in the shooting of two people.

One of the victims, who was shot, died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

In Tlapanalá, another area of Puebla, 6-7 individuals wearing masks and hoods raided a polling station set up in a school, stealing ballots and ballot boxes. During the incident, one official was shot and killed.

A 7-second video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), showing several people rushing into the polling station and causing chaos.

The night before, a council candidate was found dead just hours before the election.

The Michoacán State Prosecutor’s Office announced, “Israel Delgado Vera, who was running as a candidate in the local council elections in Cuitzeo, was murdered on the night of the 1st.”

The Michoacán prosecutor stated that the victim was shot and killed by armed motorcyclists while he was near his home talking to someone. He added that authorities are currently pursuing the suspect in the murder.

In Mexico, at least 25 candidates and campaigners have been killed ahead of this election, according to official counts.

The Mexican government announced they deployed approximately 27,000 troops and soldiers around polling stations that day.
