The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced that it held a Korea-U.K. Naval Defense Cooperation seminar on the 19th at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The seminar focused on future naval power development and ship export cooperation between Korea and the U.K.

According to DAPA, the seminar was held as a follow-up to the 25th Korea-U.K. Joint Military Committee held last year. It introduced the future direction of naval power development and advanced weapon systems in both countries. Eleven U.K. companies, including BA, Leonardo, Rolls-Royce, and SubSea Craft, participated by presenting products incorporating their latest technologies.

Domestic companies such as HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Systems, and LIG Nex1 showcased the design and products of future naval weapon systems. These systems are based on the latest technologies, including digital twin and artificial intelligence (AI), developed in cooperation with U.K. companies.

After the signing of a memorandum of understanding on joint defense exports in November last year, DAPA expects domestic companies to leverage joint promotion and diplomatic networks to promote ship exports to countries such as Australia and Canada. Navy Major General Shin Hyun Seung, Head of the DAPA’s Ship Business Department, said, “Through ongoing communication with the U.K., we plan to share our future vision and foster the development of naval power in both countries. We will actively support the export of domestic companies’ weapon systems.”
