Zelenskyy: North Korea’s Not Just Shipping Weapons, They’re Sending Troops

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a significant allegation, claiming that North Korea is not only supplying weapons but also sending troops to assist Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine.

In a video address on Sunday, Zelenskyy remarked, “We see an increasing alliance between Russia and regimes like North Korea,” and added, This is no longer just about transferring weapons. It is actually about transferring people from North Korea to the occupying military forces.”

Earlier this month, Ukrainian media reported that among the 20 individuals killed in a Ukrainian missile strike in Russian-occupied Donetsk, six were North Korean officers. On October 8, South Korea’s Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun echoed these concerns, indicating that agreements between Russia and North Korea now resemble a “near military alliance.” Despite this, the Kremlin dismissed the reports of North Korean troop involvement as fake news.

Zelenskyy’s comments confirmed the growing suspicion of North Korean military presence in Ukraine and underscored the urgent need for increased support from Western allies. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s partnerships and called for more military assistance, including long-range capabilities and critical equipment. “Our relationships with partners must continue to evolve, and we need more support on the front lines,” Zelenskyy said, arguing that further pressure on Russia could help prevent an escalation of the conflict.

Last week, Zelenskyy traveled through Germany, the UK, France, and Italy, requesting ongoing military support. He had planned to meet US President Joe Biden at a conference of over 50 allied countries in Germany to support Ukraine, but the meeting fell through when Biden postponed his trip to respond to Hurricane Milton approaching Florida.

According to German government sources, Biden is now scheduled to visit Germany on October 18 for a one-day trip. Ukraine and Middle Eastern issues are set to be major topics of discussion.
