The Washington Post reported that on the evening of October 19 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 19-year-old female employee was found dead inside a large oven in the bakery section of a Walmart store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The oven is large enough for a person to enter and is typically used in commercial baking environments for food production.

The employee was originally from India, reportedly moved to Canada with her mother two to three years ago, and has worked at Walmart since. The exact cause and circumstances of her death remain unknown, and the police indicated that the investigation is complex and involves multiple agencies so that it may take considerable time. The local Department of Labor has suspended all equipment operations in the store where the incident occurred.
