South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and eight other countries jointly criticized North Korea for directly supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Wednesday. They stated that this support could escalate conflicts that threaten peace and security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

The foreign ministers expressed serious concerns about North Korea’s potential deployment of troops to Ukraine in support of Russia.

Russia was accused of violating international law, including the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. It was stated that thousands of North Korean troops had been deployed to Russia in an attempt to recover Russia’s losses.

The ministers condemned further military cooperation between North Korea and Russia in the “strongest terms,” emphasizing that any training or support related to the use of ballistic missiles or weapons directly violates UN Security Council resolutions 1718, 1874, and 2270.

Deep concerns about the potential transfer of nuclear or ballistic missile technology from Russia to North Korea were present at the meeting. North Korea was urged to stop its support for Russia’s invasion.

The meeting affirmed the continued commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

In addition to the four foreign ministers from the countries mentioned above, representatives from Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and a senior European Union (EU) representative participated in this statement.
