Sells out in less than a minute in T mall…website crashes due to overwhelming orders

Despite the ban on iPhones in China, Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series was sold out just 1 minute after reservation sales started in China.

According to Ming Pao in Hong Kong on the 17th, the iPhone 15 series, which went on sale at the official Apple Store on Tmall, China’s e-commerce platform, at 8 p.m. the previous day, sold out in just 1 minute for both the Pro and Pro Max models. The website crashed within 10 minutes due to the surge in orders.

In addition, on China’s delivery platform Meituan, the sales of the iPhone 15 series exceeded 200 million yuan (approximately US$30 million) in just 30 minutes of reservation sales.

Buyers of the iPhone 15 series can pick up their products at Apple Stores and other stores starting the 22nd, but with the surge in orders, many buyers are expected to receive their products in October and even in November.

There were predictions that the Apple iPhone 15 series sales in China would be low due to the conflict between the United States and China, but the first day of sales showed different results than expected.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government officially denied the news that using iPhones in public institutions has been banned. According to foreign reports, on the 13th (local time), a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a regular press briefing, “China has not announced any laws, regulations, or policies prohibiting the purchase and use of foreign brand mobile phones like Apple.”

China is the third-largest market for Apple products, following the United States and Europe. It accounts for 19% of Apple’s total revenue.
