Lee Young-hee, the President of Global Marketing at Samsung Electronics, is the only female president among the 17 presidents in the group. She has been receiving global attention for her achievements at Samsung Electronics, and recently, she has been in the spotlight for receiving an honorable title.

On the 6th, Forbes named 20 female leaders who have reached the top of major corporations representing the Asia-Pacific region as 2023 Asia’s Most Influential Women (this year’s Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen).

President Lee Young-hee was the only person of Korean origin to be selected.

Forbes chose President Lee because she is not from the Samsung founding family. Forbes revealed the reason for her selection, stating, “She is the first female president of Samsung outside the founding family.”

They explained, “Samsung Electronics promoted her from vice president at the end of last year, providing a vision for growth and an opportunity for bold challenges for female talents.”

At the time of her promotion, Samsung Electronics stated, “She has made significant contributions to enhancing the value of the Samsung Electronics brand by creating a success story for Galaxy marketing and leading the company’s growth as a customer value and experience-centered company.”

Lee Young-hee, a marketing expert from L’Oréal, moved to Samsung Electronics as a marketing executive in 2007. Her task was to establish a new brand to replace Samsung Electronics’ feature phone brand, Anycall, as the trend shifted from feature phones to smartphones.

Unlike LG Electronics, which wrote a success story with ‘Chocolate Phone’ and ‘Prada Phone’ during the feature phone era, Anycall had relatively weak brand recognition. Samsung Electronics desperately needed brand power to firmly imprint its products on customers in the new smartphone era.

As a result, the Galaxy S brand was launched in 2010. As a strategic marketing executive for Samsung Electronics’ wireless business division at the time, President Lee Young-hee contributed to enhancing the Galaxy brand power through global marketing.
