South Korean Special Forces Ready for Action, Prepares for North Korean Threat

Daniel Kim Views

On the 13th, Defense Minister Shin Won Sik visited the Army Special Forces Command and instructed, “If Kim Jong-un starts a war, we must become the world’s strongest special forces team that swiftly eliminates enemy leadership as a core unit of massive retaliatory punishment (KMPR).”

Minister Shin received reports on terror readiness and joint US-Korean special strike training from the Special Forces Commander, Special Task Force Commander, and Regiment Commander. Since the 8th, the Special Forces have been conducting joint special strike training as part of the “Shield of Freedom (FS)” exercise, along with the Navy’s Special Warfare Unit (UDT/SEAL), Air Force Air Traffic Control Team (CCT), and US Army 1st Special Forces.

Notably, the elite special forces of Korea and the US have mastered advanced combat skills, such as clearing significant facilities using joint and combined forces.

The Special Forces Commander stated in his report, “Considering domestic and international political schedules, there is a possibility that North Korea may attempt various provocations, including terrorism.” He emphasized, “In case of a terrorist attack, we will immediately respond, suppress it powerfully, and retaliate to the end according to the Immediate, Vigorous, Extreme principle.”

Furthermore, Minister Shin visited the CP-TANGO (Command Post-Theater Air Naval Ground Operations), the joint US-Korean wartime command center, on the same day to inspect the “Shield of Freedom (FS)” exercise and encouraged the Korean and American soldiers. CP-TANGO directs the joint US-Korean forces’ land, sea, and air operations in times of war.

Minister Shin said, “Seeing the Korean and American soldiers dedicated to the joint exercise for peace and stability on the Korean peninsula gives me great confidence.” He emphasized, “Through this exercise, we need to master the operational system to early neutralize the North’s nuclear and missile network and further strengthen our operational capabilities to overwhelm the enemy in all areas, including land, sea, air, space, cyber, and electronic warfare.”
