A film depicting the early business years of former President Donald Trump, who is gearing up for a rematch with President Joe Biden in the upcoming November U.S. election, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

According to the Cannes Film Festival Executive Committee on the 11th (local time), 19 films, including “The Apprentice” by Iranian-Danish director Ali Abbasi, have been invited to the competitive section of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on the 14th of next month.

U.S. media outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported that “The Apprentice” is a biographical film about Trump’s younger years.

The film mainly captures his efforts to build a real estate business in New York during the 1970s and 1980s.

The film company described it as “a film that looks into the underside of the American empire” and documented “how young Donald Trump gains power through a Faust-like deal with influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film tells the story of a mentor and his student dealing with power, corruption, and deception themes.

Variety predicted that the film “will likely create waves on both sides of the political aisle.”

Film companies based in Denmark, Canada, and Ireland participated in the film’s production.

Romanian-born Hollywood actor Sebastian Stan, known to Korean audiences for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Studios’ “Captain America” series, played the role of Trump.

According to Forbes, former President Trump started as an employee of his father’s real estate company, “Trump Management,” in the late 1960s, changed the company name to “Trump Organization” in 1971, became president, and shifted the business direction from local housing construction to luxury building projects in Manhattan, New York.

He ventured into casino development in the 1980s and acquired the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, in 1985.
