Hezbollah’s Deadly Drones: How Israel Plans to Fight Back

Reports suggest that Israel is preparing a retaliatory strike against Hezbollah’s drone attacks, which have incapacitated Israel’s air defense system and caused casualties.

The Times of Israel reported Monday that the Israeli Air Force is targeting Hezbollah’s Unit 127, the division responsible for the production, maintenance, and operation of the group’s drones. The move comes after a drone attack on a Golani Brigade training base in northern Israel.

The strike, believed to have been carried out by Unit 127, hit a military cafeteria in Binyamina, about 20 miles (33 kilometers) south of Haifa, around 7 p.m. the previous evening. Four Israeli soldiers were killed and 61 others injured. The Jerusalem Post speculated that the drone involved was an upgraded Mirsad-1 model, part of Hezbollah’s Iranian-backed drone program.

Times of Israel cited Israeli military sources emphasizing that eliminating all members of Unit 127 will now be a top priority for Israeli intelligence gathering and airstrikes.

Following the attack, the Israeli military expanded its airstrike alert criteria. Times of Israel explained that this change means more sirens and false alarms will go off in the future. Even if drones disappear, they will still be assumed to be in flight until there is clear evidence they have been brought down.

On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Golani Brigade training base and declared, “You are fighting in a difficult war against Iran’s axis of evil that seeks to destroy us. They will not succeed. We are continuing to fight. We are paying a painful price, but we have considerable achievements that we will continue to make.”
