‘No Female Leaders in North Korea’s Future’: Why Kim’s Daughter Might Not Be the One

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ji Won has emphatically stated that Kim Ju Ae, daughter of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, is unlikely to be his chosen successor.

On Tuesday, Park appeared on YTN Radio‘s Shin Yul’s News Showdown and discussed Kim Ju Ae’s recent increase in public appearances. He remarked that there’s a strong possibility that Kim Jong Un’s son is studying abroad, and Kim Ju Ae is merely stepping in temporarily.

Park strongly dismissed the notion of Kim Ju Ae being the successor, drawing from his deep understanding of North Korea’s internal dynamics.

He argued, “Countries like North Korea, China, and Russia, which traditionally have feudal systems, have never seen female leaders emerge. If Kim Jong Un didn’t have a son, he would have found a way to have one by now.” Park contended that Kim Jong Un will likely select a son as his successor.

Park added that both Kim Jong Un and his sister, Kim Yo Jong, received their education in Switzerland. Reflecting on Kim Ju Ae’s first public appearance, Park speculated that it was meant to divert attention from Kim Jong Un’s son’s studies abroad.

Regarding the National Intelligence Service’s recent report that North Korea is enhancing security around Kim Jong Un with communication jamming vehicles and drone detection systems to guard against potential assassination attempts, Park remarked, “Kim Jong Un faces a real threat of assassination. Drone strikes are common tactics in countries like Israel and Iran, and he is genuinely fearful of this risk.”

Park also noted Kim Yo Jong’s significant role in supporting Kim Ju Ae’s public image, saying, “While it’s clear Kim Jong Un is fond of his daughter, this affection shouldn’t be mistaken as an indication of her as his successor.”
