North Korea has fired short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) into the East Sea, with each missile traveling approximately 400 kilometers (248 miles) before impact.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) detected multiple SRBMs launched toward the East Sea at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday from the Sariwon area in North Hwanghae Province. Following the launches, South Korea raised its surveillance and alert levels, preparing for potential further provocations. The JCS confirmed that the military is in close contact with U.S. and Japanese authorities, sharing intelligence on North Korea’s ballistic missile activities to ensure full readiness.
South Korean forces quickly detected the launches and are currently tracking the missiles while analyzing technical details.
Experts believe the missile launches were timed to coincide with the start of the U.S. presidential election, which began at 2 p.m. Korean time on the same day. They view this as a provocative action by North Korea.
