Yesterday, a Chinese military intelligence-gathering aircraft intruded into Japanese airspace on two separate occasions, marking the first confirmed incident of its kind.
According to an NHK, a Chinese Y-9 reconnaissance plane breached Japanese airspace that morning over the Gotō Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force scrambled fighter jets in response, but the Chinese reconnaissance aircraft exited the airspace by 10:40 AM.
However, around 11:29 AM, the aircraft re-entered Japanese airspace about 22 kilometers (13.6 miles) east of the Gotō Islands. This time, it exited just two minutes later but continued to circle the area afterward.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense expressed strong disapproval, stating, “We find this incursion into our airspace very regrettable and have lodged a strong protest through diplomatic channels while firmly demanding that China prevent a recurrence.”
