North Korea confirmed on Friday that leaflets allegedly distributed by drones over Pyongyang included images of leader Kim Jong Un and his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, wearing luxury items, intensifying tensions between the two Koreas.

In a statement released via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s Foreign Ministry reiterated accusations that South Korea had infiltrated drones into Pyongyang’s airspace on October 3, 9, and 10 to distribute anti-regime propaganda. The statement was accompanied by photos of the leaflets and bundles, though some images were blurred, making the full contents challenging to discern.

One of the leaflets displayed the phrase “Self-indulgent Kim Jong Un” at the top, while the bottom reads, “The North Korean economy is falling into hell.” The images featured a Swiss luxury watch, reportedly worn by Kim, and a Dior jacket believed to belong to Kim Ju Ae.

The watch, identified as an IWC Portofino Automatic, is estimated to be worth $10,500, while Kim Ju Ae’s jacket, a Dior piece, is estimated to cost between $1,800 and $1,950.

The leaflet also included a chart comparing the amount of food that can be purchased with the annual income of South and North Koreans, seemingly aimed at underscoring the economic hardships faced by North Korean citizens under Kim Jong Un’s leadership.

Analysts noted that this round of leaflets appeared less provocative than past materials distributed by private organizations, as it primarily contained information reported by South Korean and international media.

North Korea claims that these drones were part of a broader political provocation by South Korea. In its statement, the Foreign Ministry warned, “South Korea has chosen self-destruction. It is hastening its own demise,” and vowed to prepare “all means of attack” in response.

The Ministry issued a stark warning, declaring that all offensive capabilities are on standby and threatening immediate action if South Korea sends drones into North Korean airspace again. “There will be no further warnings,” the statement added, cautioning that continued provocations could lead to armed conflict or even war.
