NVIDIA Execs Cash Out, Stock Drops 6% in One Day

Amid a 6% plunge in a single day, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and other executives’ stock sales have been pointed out as fueling investor anxiety.

On the 24th, NVIDIA recorded $118.11 on the New York Stock Exchange, a 6.68% drop from the previous trading day and a 12.8% drop in just four trading days from the historic high of $135.6 on the 18th.

NVIDIA, which had risen to the top market capitalization, fell back to third place, and $200 billion of market capitalization evaporated in just one day on the 24th.

Meritz Securities analyst Hwang Su Uk stated, “The highlighted insider selling triggered a correction in NVIDIA’s stock price.”

Recently, a chart on the U.S. community Reddit drew attention, showing that the cumulative net selling amount of insiders centered around Huang recorded $450 million since June. According to the quarterly report submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by NVIDIA on the 6th, Huang plans to sell up to 600,000 NVIDIA stock by March 31, 2025, according to the insider stock trading plan. This is worth about $726 million.

Debora Shoquist, NVIDIA’s executive vice president of operations, and Colette Kress, NVIDIA’s CFO, plan to sell 41,140 and 50,000 NVIDIA stock between May and July next year.

However, Hwang explained, “It’s ordinary that the net selling amount appears large at the short-term peak of the stock price,” and “Even if the volume of insider trading is assumed to be constant in a rising stock price trend, the trading amount also temporarily forms a peak at the short-term peak of the stock price.”

Whether NVIDIA’s soaring stock price will momentarily adjust and elevate again or whether a downward trend has begun depends on whether it can generate additional bullish news while justifying the high stock price level that has already been primarily reflected.

LS Securities analyst Ha Jang Kwon analyzed, “We will be able to confirm the direction of the semiconductor industry after the NVIDIA shareholders’ meeting, which will be held simultaneously with Micron’s earnings announcement scheduled for the 26th.”
