President Joe Biden of the United States has claimed that ‘xenophobia’ is hindering economic growth in China, Japan, and India. His remarks are interpreted as targeting former President Donald Trump’s “anti-immigration” stance, which will stage a “return match” in this year’s presidential election.

According to Reuters on the 1st (local time), President Biden said at a presidential campaign fundraiser in Washington that immigration has helped the U.S. economy, but ‘xenophobia’ in China, Japan, and India is impeding growth.

“One of the reasons why our economy is growing is because of you and countless people,” President Biden said at the event, which coincided with Immigrant Memorial Week, adding, “Because we welcome immigrants.”

He then stated, “The reason why China is doing so poorly economically, why Japan is experiencing problems, why Russia, why India converge into their xenophobia. They don’t want immigrants.” On the contrary, “immigrants make us stronger.”
